GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Vilnius has a well-developed system of public transport.
There are many routes of trolleybuses and buses. They run approximately every
10-20 minutes or even more frequently during rush- hours or on popular routes.
The stops of public transport have a blue sign. Route numbers of trolleybuses
are marked in red while those of buses in blue. Every time you catch or change
a bus or a trolleybus you have to punch a new special ticket inside. Tickets
for trolleybuses are valid on buses and vice-versa. At present tickets cost 2
LTL and can be purchased at any press ("Spaudos") kiosk. Tickets are
also available from the driver for 2.50 LTL.
Below, the direct routes are described in a detail. On your
way back you have to use the same routes of buses and trolleybuses just taking
the opposite direction. The boarding bus/trolleybus stop is not taken into
account while counting the number of stops.
There are many taxi
companies in Vilnius. Generally taxi rate per kilometre is around 1.50 LTL
during a day time. Going from the airport it is about 5-8 LTL/km. Prices are
higher at night. In fact it is much cheaper to call for a taxi, rather than to
hail one from the street.
Although Vilnius people are friendly and always ready to
help you not all of them can speak fluent English or other foreign language
that is why we advise you to have with you the address, route numbers or names
of stations you need written.
In the map above, the bus stops „Lukiškes“, „Opera“, „Žaliasis tiltas“, „Vinco Kudirkos aikšte“ and „Pamėnkalnio“ are marked by A, B, C, D and E, respectively.
GETTING FROM THE AIRPORT
Bus No. 2 which can be caught from the bus stop on the left
as you exit the airport building will
take you into the city centre which lies in approximately 9 km. The same bus
will take you to the hotels “EuropaCity”
and “Ecotel Vilnius” (approx.10 km). You have to get out at the 9th stop
”Lukiskes” to reach the hotel
“EuropaCity” (go back, cross the street, turn to the right and go about 800 m).
You have to get out at the 11th stop "Opera" to reach hotels
“Congress”, “Novotel” and “Klaipeda”. Hotel “Congress” building is near the
bridge. Hotel “Novotel” is about 500 m and hotel “Klaipeda” is about 800 m (go
forward and turn to the right). You
have to get out at the 12th stop “Zaliasis tiltas” to reach hotel “Ecotel” (go
forward and turn to the right to the street “Seiminiskiu”).
GETTING FROM THE RAILWAY STATION AND
BUS TERMINAL
Trolleybus No.5 will take you from the railway station (Bus Terminal is near it) to the city centre. Its stop is close by the railway station building. Get out at the 5th stop, named "Vinco Kudirkos aikste" to reach the Academy of Sciences (go forward) or hotels “Novotel” (go to right), “Amberton Klaipeda” (go forward, then turn right), and “Congress” (go to left). You have to get out at the 6th stop “Zaliasis tiltas” to reach hotel “Ecotel” (go forward and turn to the right to the street “Seiminiskiu”). In order to reach the “EuropaCity” hotel take the trolleybus No. 1 or No. 7 from the railway station (Bus Terminal is near it). Its stop is in front of the railway station building. Get out at the 5th stop, named “Pamenkalnio” and go forward and across the street.
The weather is changeable in summer and autumn in Lithuania. In September it might be as chilly as well as warm. Though the average temperature of September is 14° C but on some days it can be as high as 22° C as well. Please remember that an umbrella might be really helpful in Lithuania, too.
