The Department of the Theory of an Atom is reaching late 1950-ies in its history, when it was called "Department of Quant-mechanical Calculations" at the Institute of Physics and Mathematics of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. The head of the Institute, as well as that of Department, was Academician Adolfas Jucys (he headed the Department up to his sudden death on February 4, 1974). Here in the Department a large number of Professor's disciples always worked, continuing to develop the trend in science that he had pursued himself, the theory of complex atoms.
